Four Types. One Region.

Pick the experience that fits your group, your skill level, and how far off the grid you want to go. From fully serviced provincial parks to remote, boat-access-only wilderness, the region offers some of the most diverse camping in Northern Ontario, and we help you access it safely whether by road or by water.

Provincial Parks

Provincial parks are the most accessible and structured camping option. Maintained campsites, clear booking systems, washrooms, drinking water, and maintained trails. Ideal for a reliable, comfortable camping experience with easy access.

Key Parks in the Region

Restoule Provincial Park

South of the lake. Serviced sites, cliff trails, and back lake access.

Mikisew Provincial Park

Family-friendly park on Eagle Lake. Beach, trails, and well-kept sites.

Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park

On the Mattawa River. Historic canoe route, rocky shores, and interior sites.

Marten River Provincial Park

North of North Bay. Forested sites, classic Northern Ontario canoe country.

Additional Nearby Options

South Bay Provincial Park

Remote, non-operating park on the south shore of Lake Nipissing.

French River Provincial Park

Canadian Heritage River. Mixed backcountry and organized sites by canoe.

Mattawa River Provincial Park

Waterway park following the Mattawa River. Paddle-in interior camping.

Algonquin Provincial Park

Ontario's flagship park. Drive-in and backcountry sites; further east.

Private & Municipal Campgrounds

Smaller campgrounds offer a more flexible and often quieter alternative to provincial parks. Well suited for short stays, simple tent setups, or easy-access camping close to local communities.

Lake Bernard Park

Private campground in the Nipissing region with lakefront access on Lake Bernard.

Rivers Edge Camping

South River area. Small, local, and flexible.

Munro Park Powassan

Municipal campground in Powassan. Simple, accessible, close to town.

Boat-Access Camping & Water Taxi

Many of the most scenic and private campsites in this region are only accessible by water, especially along the Upper French River and Lake Nipissing shoreline and islands. Lake Nipissing Outfitters makes it possible to experience true wilderness camping without the need for your own boat.

  • Water taxi services to remote, boat-access-only campsites
  • Equipment and gear transport to your site
  • Pickup and return scheduling for your trip
